Athletic trainers work with patients of all ages and backgrounds, helping them return to or maintain a physically active lifestyle in settings such as the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), Major League Baseball (MLB) and other professional, collegiate, high school and clinical settings.
With Carroll University’s Pre-Athletic Training program, you can gain your undergraduate degree (in one of 11 majors) and a graduate degree in athletic training in just five years.
If you are a current university undergraduate or a high school student preparing to enter university, Carroll University’s Pre-Athletic Training Program positions you to earn a Master of Science of Athletic Training degree in as few as five years. Our flexible 3 + 2 graduate completion program allows you to select from 11 different undergraduate majors.
Incoming Carroll University first-year students seeking a Carroll bachelor’s degree may apply for direct admission to the 3+2 graduate completion program through the Carroll Office of Admission.
To be considered for direct admission, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- 2.75 weighted high school GPA
- 1 year of high school Biology with a grade of “C” or better
- 1 year of high school Chemistry with a grade of “C” or better
- 3 years of high school math with a grade of “C” or better
- 1 year of high school Physics is recommended, but not required
Carroll University students with direct admission status must satisfy all MSAT program prerequisite requirements by the end of spring semester of their junior year in order to advance into year one of the graduate MSAT program in their senior year.
Approved Majors for MSAT 3+2 Completion
Carroll has received Higher Learning Commission approval to offer the Master of Science of Athletic Training as well as approval from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) for this change in degree.
Current students who are completing their degree in other majors are welcome to apply as a 4+2, provided the prerequisite courses have been completed.
Beyond courses in your field of study, a benefit to attending Carroll is participating in our required cross cultural experience component. These experiences allow you to learn about different cultures and give you the opportunity to travel and interact with diverse groups locally, nationally or internationally. Students majoring in the health sciences can use their cross-cultural experience to gain additional knowledge in healthcare. Groups travel on medical missions around the globe to provide care and interact with underserved populations in countries like Guatemala, Costa Rica, Mexico and Nicaragua. These unique immersive experiences will make you a desirable applicant for graduate programs or professional careers.
The Carroll University Master of Athletic Training Program’s Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Clinic provides musculoskeletal and sport-related evaluation, rehabilitation and consultation services to the physically active and athlete populations within the greater Waukesha community.
